    Interference problems

The other day I got a wireless 360 controller with the usb receiver for your computer. Problem is, when you plug in the receiver my headset decides to be a cocksucker. Only way for the headset to work is to unplug the 360 receiver and restart the PC while it's unplugged. Just deal with it or is there a way to solve this?

is there a button or an option to change which frequency or channel or whatever the headset or 360 controller is set on? i know theres a button on the top of the 360 controller (inbetween left bumper and right bumper) that you can press in conjunction with the 360 to detect the frequency/channel thinger.

@clock, yeah the sync button but my headset isn't wireless.
@lady, yeah but I'm gonna go try the 1.2 driver. I'll be damned if that works.

And the updated drivers don't do anything.

Is your headset USB or 3.5 mm (two stereo plugs)? Is the mic the part that stops working, or sound output, or both?

This is sort of a shooting from the hip guess, but I know that the 360 controller has an input for a headset on it. It could be that when you plug in the 360 controller, Windows sets that to the default input/output device, which would prevent anything from going to your headset. Restarting without the 360 controller would fix that if it were in fact the problem.

Next time you plug in the 360 controller, go to Control Panel > Sound and check that your headset is set as the default device in both Playback and Recording (I'm looking at it in Vista right now, I don't remember for sure, but I think it's the same in XP and is probably the same in 7).

    It's usb and I don't have a 360 headset wired/wireless.
I could get a wireless headset Club Bing: Prizes: All Prizes: Xbox 360 Wireless Headset (that's the link) but I heard bad stuff about it and I don't know if it has input & output sound.

As for the sound going screwy part, the mic and headphones go screwy, it's all staticy and scratchy.

i dont think its the headset that is bad but the codecs xbox live uses. the head set will only work in 360 controllers so its pretty much useless for anything but to play 360 games on live.

Just wanna correct any confusion. It's my PC, not xbox (I wouldn't waste my time buying one) that is having problems. The wireless receiver for the computer that allows me to use the 360 controller and my Logitech clearchat comfort usb headset has some interference problems.

Noise on the headset is from voltage backfeeding through the ground for the USB bus. Try relocating the receiver to another USB port. Definitely don't keep both on the same USB pair but if seperating them doesn't fix shit and returning the controller isn't an option, you're buggered. Any way to nix the USB connectivity of the Clearchat and go with the 3.5mmx2 option?

I have my headset plugged in the front and the receiver is plugged in the back. I'll switch them up. 2x 3.5mm isn't an option for me. Plus my onboard audio likes to mess up the input sound on me.

Play around with different USB permutations, see if one eliminates the noise. As a last resort, try fucking between Windows/Application/Hardware volumes to reduce severity of the noise.

I have a SteelSeries 5E headset which shipped with a USB dongle. I had zero luck with it. A lot of noise and connectivity issues made me rage, bought an X-Fi Titanium card and did the analog hook-up. Get 5.1 surround with CMVS, great for L4D. No help to you, but fuck it, I'll tell you anyway.

I'll give it a shot. How much was it? Mine was like 30$ from circuit city, does a nice job with stero or surround sound.

A little pricier. $120 CDN for the headset, $150 (I think..) for the XFi Platinum. But it has hardware audio acceleration and pipes out my MIDI soundscapes with crystal clarity. And by MIDI soundscapes, I mean terrible piano arrangements I make when I'm too drunk to play TF2.

Razer Megalodon I think. I had my eye on it for a while but they kept pushing back the release date (Q3 2008, then Q4, then Spring 2009...). I finally gave up and grabbed the SteelSeries. The Megalodon has scored some good review scores and Razer makes some good stuff. I'd love to get the Razer Mako 2.1 speakers. $399 list. FMA.

I saw Nana's avatar and just innately thought it was Lady.

That is, until I read some intelligent posts and had to check the name.

I do have a 500 watt sitting somewhere. Right now I'm using a 300, if I get bored enough I'll replace the power supplies.

Yeah, I should've done it right away. I guess I wanted at least one other person to see that in case I get blamed for it.
