    New Steam UI

Big changes to the Steam client UI coming about.

    Beta here.

It seems bulkier which I'm not a fan of, but things seem a lot neater and overall I suppose it's better.

Give it a try. Especially if it's all coming eventually.

I'm quite a fan of the new game overlay. Picture
Also worth mentioning, the Steam overlay browser is no longer based on IE.

If you get an error saying Cannot Contact Steam network when it tries to update, that's pretty common. Go into your Steam folder and delete the ClientRegistry.blob file and it should work.

im not a fan of the new look. its a little more bulky than the currnet style its not horrible per say. maybe once they tweak it a little it'll be okay.

If you own Modern Warfare 2 becareful of using the beta, yesterday at launch it was deleting the MW2 folders, they also released an update shortly after launch but not sure what it fixed.

Some people were also having their games locked out (Couldn't play anything), their friends list deleted, and more fun random shit happening so try it at your own risk.

Disclaimer aside I like the new UI more then the current, it only took 10 or so minutes to get used to it and it has several little features I like. I am personally looking forward to this new UI being released the current one has given me so much shit the last few months that I'll be glad to see it gone.

People without the beta were getting their friends lists deleted too. That was unrelated.

I like the new UI, smooth, easy on the eyes, bulkiness I'll have to get used to but yeah, looks good.

    oof.

i really don't like the appearance of the new UI. i don't know about any of the new features, but i liked my old obsidian skin for steam a lot more than this. for friends/messaging, the random gradient shit looks awful and makes things harder to read, the new taskbar icon is weird (gradients again), and the "Chat - " in the title of message windows makes it impossible to tell who's messaging you from the taskbar if you have a lot of windows open.

the new games list in either of the three modes just doesn't work out. in the default view, you can't tell which game is which from a glance because of the lack of game icons (though if they readded them along with a way to easily see which are games/mods/shortcuts, it'd be a huge improvement), and in the other two, it's just too bloated.

i think they should keep the old UIs and simply implement the new features on top of them, if possible. it shouldn't be that hard, since it's basically just a bunch of variously colored opaque boxes.
